Visit Leads To Decision

This Aldine Eisenhower athlete took in San Marcos yesterday and before he left, he informed the Texas State Staff that he wanted to join the maroon and gold.

The dog days of summer are in full effect, but you still have countdown's to fall camp and the 2015 college season ensues right around the corner. Along with that, kids are taking visits, and pledges are still coming in. That was the case for Texas State on Thursday afternoon, as Robert Brown took in the San Marcos campus and decided to commit to the Bobcats.

"I was there (Texas State) with my parents and little brother. I saw all the facilities and stuff. The campus was great, very beautiful. I was in a team meeting, a position meeting. I saw how hyped they really were, and it was really a family environment," said Brown.

After that meeting, it was his mother that he decided to tell about his intentions, then the staff.

"I was talking to my mom, I told her I want to become a Bobcat. I talked to Coach Conway and then I talked to Head Coach Dennis Franchione. They were super excited," said Brown.

As his senior season approaches for Aldine Eisenhower, Brown will be playing running back more than any other position. He's continued to workout and lift, leading him to put on some muscle, now weighing 175lbs. He's also grown an inch and now stands 5'9". Earlier this spring while testing at school, he posted an eye popping 4.38 40 time and Brown says he's still just as fast.

Running Backs Coach Jeff Conway was the lead recruiter for Brown and when he sets foot on campus, Coach Conway has told him they plan on using him in their hybrid back position.

"With the offense they run, they have a special position called the hybrid position that they want to use me in. It's kind of like a part running back and wide receiver position. Just like they use C.J. Best," said Brown.

Earlier this spring when we spoke with Robert, he did have the Bobcats high on his list and he reiterated it when it came time to making the call.

"I didn't tell yal at first, but I always had my mind on Texas State all the time. Staying close to home was very much a factor also."

Brown considers himself a solid commit to Texas State and is now focusing on his senior year. He's still lifting, working on his craft, and doing everything possible to get better. He and his teammates start two a days in three weeks. He's not sure what weekend, but he'll be taking his official visit to Texas State during the season.
