Visit Gets Thumbs Up

For a college program a visit, unofficial or not, can make a world of difference. This tight end target took in San Marcos on Wednesday and came away very surprised with what Texas State had to offer.

In the midst of picking up a 2015 signee on Wednesday, Texas State also hosted top tight end target Corey Rau from Katy Cinco Ranch High School.

The 6'4" 247lb tight end made the trip to San Marcos and he arrived mid-afternoon. His brother currently attends Texas State and he's been on campus before, but was surprised by some of the more intricate things he got to see in person Wednesday.

"We set up the visit with Coach Conway. He gave us a tour of the business school since that's what I would be majoring in. It was a good visit, I'm glad I took it. It was actually the academic side that jumped out to me a lot. I didn't know that they were that high up in business," said Rau.

Recently Rau has started to narrow down the process a bit, but he has no specific order or ranking of schools. He has 12 offers, with some being from P5 conferences: Kansas State, Minnesota, Washington, Central Florida, Purdue, SMU, Houston and others are vying for his commitment.

On the plus side of things, his visit to San Marcos really helped the Bobcats are it's a program that now has his attention.

"I've been there a couple of times, I never walked the campus before. They interest me a lot. I saw a bunch of things that I would've never thought they had," said Rau.

With his senior year right around the corner, Corey is set on having a decision before the start of his football season. He has an unofficial visit to SMU set up for Friday, and no other visits set for the next few weeks. In the world of recruiting that can always change though.

Texas State is recruiting Rau as a tight end. The staff sees him as a body that can stay into block if needed, but also get down field and make plays. In sitting down and talking with the staff, they see him being used in multiple positions.

As a junior for Cinco Ranch, Rau finished with 18 catches for 300 yards, and 4 TD's. Not bad at all for a heavy run oriented team.

Talk about Rau's offer in the Cats Den Insider forum.
