Sun Belt Conference Rundown

Week 1 has come and gone, and to say the least, the Sun Belt Conference as a whole, did not have a good start to the new College Football season. Only two teams walked away with a "W." BI Contributor Roy Burkhart gives us a shotgun recap of how the conference did.

Appalachian State-Week one was good to the Mountaineers, as they were one of only two SBC teams to win week one. They drubbed the Howard Bison by a score of 49-0, while putting up over 600 yds of offense. App St. travels this week to take on the #12 Clemson Tigers.

South Alabama – The second teams to draw a win from the Sun Belt in week one. The Jaguars put up over 400 yds of offense on Gardner Webb and a final score of 33-23 was the result. S. Alabama travels to take on Nebraska this week.

Louisiana Lafayette- The Cajuns managed a little under 500 yds offense in a week one loss to SEC foe Kentucky. Louisiana Lafayette played a tough game but fell in the end by one touchdown, 40-33. The Cajuns travel to play Northwestern this week and the Wildcats are coming off of a huge upset win over Stanford in week one.

Idaho- The Vandals had a rough first week, falling to Ohio 45-28. Things look dim going into week 2 as they travel to Southern California to take on the #8 USC Trojans. This one should be decided before it starts.

Troy- The Trojans, like most the other teams in the SBC failed to pull out a win in the first week of play. They fell to North Carolina State, 49-21. The Trojans play host to Charleston Southern this week, and are looking to get into the win column.

Georgia State- Played a tight contest against the Charlotte 49’ers, falling by a score of 23-20. The Panthers travel to Las Cruces this week to take on the New Mexico State Aggies, opening conference play early in the season.

Texas State- The Bobcats traveled week one down to Tallahassee to take on the 10th ranked Seminoles. The Cats struggled to really get anything going, falling by a score of 59-16. The Bobcats play host to Prairie view A&M this week, in what should see TXST get their first win of the season.

Louisiana Monroe- The Warhawks Fell big to the #9 Georgia Bulldogs this week by a score of 51-14. This shouldn’t surprise anyone, but ULM plays host to Nicholls St. this week and will be the favorite.

New Mexico St.- The Aggies like most of the rest of the conference fell in week 1. They traveled to the Swamp and pretty much played the role of Gator Bait to the Florida Gators falling, 61-13. The Aggies play host to Georgia State. this weekend in what should be a competitive opening game in SBC play.

Arkansas State- The Red Wolves fell in week 1 action against the #8 USC Trojans by a score of 55-6. Things don’t look much better this week as they play host to the Missouri Tigers. This one is another big mismatch, but hey, its college football and anything can happen.

Georgia southern- The Eagles had a rough first week falling hard to West Virginia 44-0, getting completely dismantled by the Big XII foe. It's a complete turnaround from last season's non-conference results against P5 teams such as Georgia Tech and NC State. Now the Eagles play host to Western Michigan this week.
