Red Raiders Going to New York

The Texas Tech Red Raiders (21-12) defeated the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (16-15) to advance to the Semifinals of the NIT. Andre Emmett led Texas Tech to victory with 29 points.

Both teams started the game slow, but the offenses soon found their rhythms in the final ten minutes of the half.  Texas Tech led by as much as 4 points, but Georgia Tech was able to tie the game up at the half.  At halftime, the score was tied at 35.

The score remained close until the Red Raiders used a 9-0 run to take a 57-46 lead with 11:16 left in the game.  Texas Tech led by as much as 12 points before the Yellow Jackets made their move late in the game.  Georgia Tech pulled to within 4 points with 55 seconds left in the game, but Texas Tech was able to make their free throws, giving the Red Raiders a 80-72 victory.

Tonight's game was a great example of what the Texas Tech offense is all about.  The Red Raiders did a great job using player and ball movement to create high percentage scoring chances.  Andre Emmett led the way with 29 points.  Robert Tomaszek had a nice game, scoring 19 points on the night.  Kasib Powell scored 15 points in his final home game as a Red Raider.  If Texas Tech can continue to play like this, they will have an excellent chance of being crowned NIT champs.

The Texas Tech defense deserves a lot of credit for tonight's victory.  The Red Raiders forced 17 Georgia Tech turnovers.  Most of these turnovers ended in easy baskets for the Red Raiders.  Texas Tech has played solid defense all year, but the offense had fallen short.  When the Red Raiders are playing well on both ends, this team can play with almost anyone.
