Tech To Face Northwestern in TicketCity Bowl

Texas Tech (7-5) accepted an invitation on Sunday to play Northwestern (7-5) in the inaugural TicketCity Bowl at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas on New Year's Day.

LUBBOCK — Texas Tech will head back to Cotton Bowl Stadium at Fair Park in Dallas for the second time this season when the Red Raiders take on Northwestern in the inaugural TicketCity Bowl at 11 a.m. CDT on New Year's Day.

Tech (7-5) accepted the invitation on Sunday, making it the 11th consecutive season Tech has played in a bowl game after being eligible for the 18th consecutive season.

"We're excited about having the opportunity to play in the TicketCity Bowl," Tech first-year head coach Tommy Tuberville said. "It's an honor and a pleasure any year you get the opportunity to play in a bowl game.

"This being the first year of the TicketCity Bowl, we're excited about it and our players are looking forward to having another game and an opportunity to play and practice. We'll be spending a lot of quality time in the city of Dallas. I've been there before for the bowl games there and looking forward to the game this year."

Tuberville took Auburn to the Cotton Bowl in 2007, beating Nebraska 17-14 and was a defensive assistant at Miami when the Hurricanes went in 1991. This will be his 11th bowl game as a head coach.

Tech ended the season winning three out of four games including a 24-17 win over No. 14 Missouri.

The Red Raiders are one of five Big 12 South teams to qualify for a bowl game this season — Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Baylor.

Northwestern (7-5) ended the season on the opposite note by losing three of its final four games, including a disappointing 70-23 loss in its finale against No. 4 Wisconsin.
