Hocutt Accepts Job as Texas Tech AD

A source has confirmed that there is a new AD at Texas Tech

LUBBOCK — A source close to the situation confirmed to RaiderPower.com Friday afternoon that Miami athletic director Kirby Hocutt accepted the job to take over as Texas Tech's athletic director.

Texas Tech athletics later released the following statement after RP.com first spoke with its source, confirming the hire.

"We are pleased that Kirby Hocutt has accepted our offer to become the next athletics director at Texas Tech University," Texas Tech University President Dr. Guy Bailey said. "There are a few small details to be worked out but we have an agreement in principle. We are excited about the future of our athletics program and look forward to his leadership. This is a great day for Texas Tech Athletics."

Hocutt replaces Gerald Myers, who announced in the fall that he would retire at the school year's end in May.

"It is with great pleasure that I accept the position as Director of Athletics for Texas Tech," Hocutt said in a statement from Texas Tech. "I am excited about this tremendous opportunity and look forward to working with the University leadership, coaches, staff and student-athletes as we focus on advancing the department of intercollegiate athletics.  As a former student-athlete and administrator, I am very familiar with the Big 12 Conference and look forward to returning to my home state of Texas."

Hocutt was entering his third year as the athletic director at Miami and was the athletic director at Ohio prior to that. He also worked at Oklahoma taking athletics fundraising to an all-time high.

"This is a great day for Texas Tech University and for the future of all 17 of our intercollegiate sports," Texas Tech University System Chancellor Kent Hance said. "Kirby (Hocutt) is a visionary in the business of college athletics and we believe that he will grow our athletics department into one of the best in the country, making the Red Raiders a household name."

Hocutt replaces Gerald Myers, who announced in the fall that he would retire at the school year's end in May.

A press conference will be announced at a later time and Hocutt should be on the Texas Tech campus by next week.
