Red & Black Series: Game 3 Report

Red team secures series victory with 9-5 win over the Black team on Tuesday.

Following a game where hits were a rarity, but errors were many, a slugfest was the story of Game 3 of the Red and Black Series.

The Red team secured a series victory with their 9-5 win on Tuesday at Rip Griffin Park.

It wasn't just one inning that the Red team took advantage, instead scored a run in six innings of the seven-inning affair.

Pitching has been the strength of the Red team thus far, but out of Game 3 the bullpen really showed its strength.

Jamen Parten, who would get the win, got the nod for the start and went four innings giving up four runs on nine hits, struck out three and allowed no walks. Once the bullpen took over it was lights out from that point on.

The combination of Scott Erzinger, Zach Johnson and John Neely was enough to hold the Black team to just three hits and one run in the final three innings.

Besides the pitching the big bats came out in Game 3.
The Red team had a slim 2-1 lead heading into the fourth inning, but after a leadoff double from David Paiz, Brennan Moore drove him in making it 3-1, then Moore scored on a two-out RBI single by Nick Hanslick making it 4-1.

Trailing 5-1 in the fifth inning, the Black team started to fight back and got right back into the game with an RBI triple by Tim Proudfoot, a RBI double by Reid Redman and bases loaded walk cut the lead to 5-4.

The Red team would tack on four more runs with a pair of them coming from a RBI double off the bat of Jamodrick McGruder. The junior finished the game going 2-for-2 with two doubles, a pair of runs driven in, a walk and a stolen base.

The Red team finished off the Black team after this and cruised to a 9-5 victory clinching the series.

Andre Wheeler, who started for the Black team and suffered the loss, went three and two-third innings pitched, allowed four runs on four hits and walked two.

Even though the Black team suffered the loss Barrett Barnes stood out going 4-for-4 with two doubles and a run driven in.

Today is the teams off days before they resume the series on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Rip Griffin Park.
