Preview: Texas Tech vs. DePaul

Tech and DePaul meet today, and the Red Raiders look to rebound from their first loss of the season.

Following Thursdays loss to Indiana State, Texas Tech head coach Billy Gillispie said he would rather have practice today, but that is not the case as the Red Raiders are faced with another tough challenge today.

The Red Raiders (3-1) continue play in the 2011 Old Spice Classic today as they face a very good experienced DePaul team at 1:30 p.m. in HP Fieldhouse.

DePaul (2-1) is coming off a tough loss to Minnesota losing 86-85 on Thursday, and is coming into this game looking for its third win of the season.

DePaul is not a team that Tech can just roll over like previous opponents as the Blue Demons have three players averaging double-digit points entering today's matchup.

Sophomore guard Brandon Young leads the way for the Blue Demons averaging 18 points per game, followed up by sophomore forward Cleveland Melvin who averages 17.7 points per game.

Tech on the other hand is not that blessed with consistency and experience like DePaul has.

The Red Raiders have just two players averaging double-digits in scoring as Ty Nurse leads the way with 14.8 points per game followed up by Jordan Tolbert who averages 11.8 points per game.

Despite some Red Raiders stepping up in games this season, turnovers continue to be a major issue up to this point, which is one of the reasons Tech fell short yesterday – 18 turnovers.

One of the things that the Red Raiders will have to improve on as well in this game if they want to walk away with a win is creating opportunities at the free-throw line.

Tech only traveled to the charity stripe nine times in Thursday's loss, while Indiana State went 31 times to the line.

DePaul is a team that is very good at creating opportunities at the free-throw line and making them – Blue Demons were 13-for-13 from the line in their loss to Minnesota.

The Red Raiders will be interesting to watch today to see how they respond to the team's first loss of the season.

Tech and DePaul tip-off today at 1:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
