Preview: Don't Underestimate Them

Tech has a 10-day break following tonight's game, but going into that break an undefeated record would not be too bad.

No opponent should ever be overlooked.

It does not matter whether the team has not won a game in a season or in a decade, a team should never be overlooked.

The Texas Tech Lady Raiders (7-0) are coming off their biggest win of the season with their victory over Penn State, but Head Coach Kristy Curry said the team has to move on from it.

"It's like I told the kids today, this is over," she said, "Let's put this behind us, let's learn and grow from it and continue to improve every day."

If any team needs improvement, Tech's next opponent would certainly be it. UT Arlington (1-4) has struggled out of the gate this season and they have not been able to get much going.

They won eight games as a team a year ago and lost three starters as well, the team is struggling with its continuity and as a result, they have had trouble scoring.

The Mavericks average just over 45 points a night and when a struggling offense goes up against a strong defense, it is a recipe for disaster.

With a team with only one senior on the roster, and a transfer at that, they are going to have to do all they can to just keep it a game.

Curry said she expects UTA to run a lot of zone and it will be good practice for the Lady Raiders.

She said they have to improve upon their offensive execution against the zone because Penn State gave them trouble all day Saturday with the zone.

After the Red Raider football season, Tech fans are wondering how their team will react after a big win. Texas Tech went 0-5 after their upset of Oklahoma and never looked the same.

Junior Guard Monique Smalls said the team cannot dwell on the past and look to improve in the game tonight at 7 p.m. with UTA.

"Coming off a big win we have to still have to make sure our heads are in the place where we need to do the things right," she said, "Still work on our mistakes from the last game and learn and grow as a team."
