Notebook: Red Raiders Face Roadrunners

Tech men's basketball is back in action tonight against CSU-Bakersfield looking to break above the .500 mark on the season. Here are some notes needed before they tip-off.

* Texas Tech (5-5) return to the court tonight after a couple days off to take on CSU-Bakersfield (6-6)

 

* The last time out the Red Raiders fell to Oral Roberts 72-56, while the Roadrunners are coming off a 30-point beating of Pacific, 83-53

 

* Billy Gillispie is at the helm of the Red Raiders for the first time, but not his first time in the Big 12 Conference. Gillispie has been known for turning programs around and right now has Tech at 5-5

 

* The Road Runners are in the same boat at 6-6, but are led by the 2001 Naismith National Coach of the Year Rod Barnes, who led Ole Miss to 27 wins that season and a trip to the Sweet Sixteen

 

* The 16-point loss marked the worst loss of the season for the Red Raiders while CSU-Bakersfield's 30-point win was the largest margin of victory on the season

 

* The Roadrunners possess an experienced starting five with no freshmen, or sophomores as four juniors and one senior round out their starting five

 

* The Red Raiders on the other hand have two freshmen in their starting five and only one senior, who is also the lone senior on the squad

 

* Jordan Tolbert has been playing out of this world the last few games scoring 20 points in three consecutive games. Tolbert has scored 20 point or more in four games this season which is the most by a freshman in the past 20 years

 

* Toddrick Gotcher, the other freshman in the starting lineup, has also been producing ranking in the top four on the team in points, assists, steals and blocks

 

* For the Roadrunners a couple of players have stood out this season including Issiah Grayson who leads the team with 11.9 points per game. Grayson also leads the team with 5.1 assists per game. Grayson is also tied for the team lead in steals with 17

 

* Behind Grayson stands Tyrone White, who is averaging 9.3 points per game and also averages 2.3 rebounds per game

 

* Tech and CSU-Bakersfield tip-off at 7 p.m. tonight inside the United Spirit Arena with the game being televised on the Texas Tech Sports Network, locally KAMC 28, and on ESPN3.com
