Tolbert Named Big 12 Rookie of the Week

The freshman has been having an out of this world season leading the team and Big 12 freshmen in scoring and gets his first award of the season.

He has been the best and most consistent player for Billy Gillispie's young squad this season averaging 15.4 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game, which both lead the team, and he's just a freshman.

Freshman Jordan Tolbert has been vital to the Red Raiders success this season and was honored on Monday for his last two performances garnering the Big 12 Rookie of the Week Award.

"Great honor for him." Tech head coach Billy Gillispie said. "Great honor for anyone."

This marks the first award for Tolbert this season, and is the first Red Raider to garner the award since David Tairu got recognized on November 16, 2009.

Tolbert in the past two games, wins against CSU-Bakersfield and Southeastern Louisiana, for the Red Raiders has averaged 19 points and four rebounds per game.

Tolbert ranks first among Big 12 freshmen in scoring (15.4 points per game), field goal percentage (.652) and ranks second in rebounds (6.1 per game).

The Red Raiders will be back in action on Wednesday opening Big 12 Conference play on the road against Oklahoma State.
