Notebook: Texas Tech vs. Kansas

The Red Raiders look to notch their first Big 12 Conference win against the Kansas Jayhawks who have started 2-0 in conference play for the sixth straight season.

- Texas Tech returns to the court tonight to take on the Kansas Jayhawks inside the United Spirit Arena.

 

- The Red Raiders enter the game on a two-game skid and are 7-7 overall and 0-2 in Big 12 play

 

- The Jayhawks come in 12-3 overall and 2-0 in Big 12 play with wins against Kansas State and Oklahoma

 

- Kansas enters as the No. 10 team in the country according to the most recent Associated Press Poll

 

- This game marks the 25th meeting between the two teams with the series dating back to December 7, 1959. Kansas leads the all-time series 20-4 and is 7-4 in games played in Lubbock

 

- With a win the Red Raiders would notch their first Big 12 win of the season and first against a Top 25 squad. Tech fell to No. 4 Baylor 73-60 on Saturday in Lubbock.

 

- With a win Kansas would have started Big 12 play for the sixth straight season, and eighth time under the direction of Bill Self

 

- Kansas on their roster only have two players actually from the state of Kansas, on Tech's roster there are six players from in-state

 

- Tech coach Billy Gillispie was an assistant coach for Self in his time at Tulsa and Illinois from 1997-2002 before Gillispie went on to be the head coach at UTEP, and Self went to Kansas

 

- In his nine seasons at Kansas, Self has posted a record of 249-49, Gillispie is in his first season at Tech with a 7-7 record so far

 

- Kansas is led by three-time Big 12 Player of the Week Tyler Robinson, who is the only player in the Big 12 to be averaging a double-double this season, 17.5 points per game and 12.1 rebounds per game

 

- Texas Tech is led by freshman Jordan Tolbert, who has received the Phillips 66 Big 12 Freshman of the Week once this season, as he is averaging 14.8 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game
