Notebook: Tech vs. Iowa State

The Red Raiders look to get their first conference win of the season today against Iowa State. Here are notes and bits of info needed before the game tips off.

* The Red Raiders return to the court today to face Iowa State in a 4 p.m. matchup in the United Spirit Arena

 

* Tech enters the game 7-10, 0-5 in Big 12 Conference play, while Iowa State enters the game 13-5, 3-2 in Big 12 play

 

* Iowa State looks for its first win in Lubbock since March 1, 2000 , and this marks the 20th meeting between the two squads and the Red Raiders lead the series in Lubbock 6-2

 

* Iowa State is coming into the game off a thrilling last-second win against Oklahoma State, 71-68, while Texas Tech is coming off a 64-55 loss to Oklahoma in Norman

 

* Billy Gillispie is in his first season with the Red Raiders with a 7-10 mark, and Fred Hoiberg is in his second season at the helm, after a 16-16 season he has the Cyclones on track to the NCAA Tournament

 

* The Cyclones have struggled on the road this season going 1-3 and their lone road win came against Texas A&M winning 74-50 on January 7

 

* The Red Raiders are 6-2 at home this season, but have dropped their last two games, both conference games

 

* The Cyclones have been a three-point making machine this season averaging 9.1 three-pointers made per game, which leads the Big 12 and ranks eighth nationally, and is 10th in attempts averaging 23.6 per game

 

* In Big 12 play, the Cyclones have made eight or more three-pointers in those games averaging 9.8 per game and a 40.2 percent mark

 

* Iowa State is the only team in the country to have four players with 30 or more three-pointers. White (43), Chris Allen (37), Christopherson (33) and Tyrus McGee (30)

 

* Royce White leads the Cyclones in scoring averaging 13.6 points per game, but is not alone in averaging double digits in scoring. Chris Allen averages 12.5 points per game, and Scott Christopherson averages 11.4 points per game

 

* For the Red Raiders the season has been tough, but Jordan Tolbert leads the team with 13 points per game, but Jaye Crockett has been vital lately. Crockett has reached double-digits in scoring in five of the last six games averaging 12.3 points per game in that stretch.
