The Lady Raiders will take the court today not in their normal home uniforms of all white with red numbers trimmed in black, but a bit of a lighter shade of red - pink.
"It's awesome, I think every game should be a pink game where we raise money for such a good cause like that," Tech senior Jordan Barncastle said. "I know with Women's Basketball it holds a special place in all of our hearts, and it's great. I hope that we raise all sorts of money, and it's cool to change up the uniforms and wear pink and know that it's for a good cause and a good reason."
Fans will have the chance to give back to the "Play 4 Kay" and Kay Yow Cancer Fund as for fans that wear pink to the game can get tickets for just $5 a piece for seats in the lower bowl of the United Spirit Arena.
Along with wearing pink, people that are among the first 500 fans to arrive at the USA will receive pink pom-poms to cheer on the Lady Raiders.
Another part of the Official Pink game will be the Pink Treadmill that will be courtside and will have someone walking on it throughout the game as a part of the Pink Treadmill Party to help raise money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund as well.
Along with the pink pom-poms and pink treadmill, there will be a streamer drop prior to game time by the Saddle Tramps and halftime will also be eventful.
While the teams are back in the locker rooms there will be a $10,000 check presented to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and a $5,000 check to the Marsha Sharp Leadership Circle by United Supermarkets and General Mills.
With all the events happening today, Tech head coach Kristy Curry said it is great to be able to give back to such a good cause.
"We're excited, Play4Kay is such a special initiative where all coaches across the coaches can put recruiting aside, wins and losses aside and we can all come together to make a difference," she said. "It's an honor to have Coach (Marsha) Sharp here on campus, it's so important, the Marsha Sharp Leadership Circle and having the opportunity to raise extra funds for women's athletics along with Play4Kay, just two great causes.
"I'm excited to have the opportunity this weekend to be a part of that. We're going to wear pink, we've got some new pink shoes and it should be a lot of fun."
**Play 4Kay is an opportunity for a nation of coaches to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
