The Lady Raiders were unable to overcome a late run by the Longhorns to prevent another loss in Austin, which is exactly what Texas Tech got dealt falling 63-54 on Wednesday night.
Tech (17-8, 5-8 in Big 12 Conference Play) took a 22-20 lead into halftime, but was unable to keep Texas from fighting back in the second half.
With 4:52 left in the game it was tied at 49 apiece before Texas finished the game on a 14-5 run beating Tech by nine in the end.
Chassidy Fussell, who led Texas (15-10, 5-8) with 20 points, and Ashleigh Fontenette, who went for a double-double scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds – all defensive, led the way for the Longhorns in the win. Fussell and Fontenette were the only players to reach double-digits in scoring for Texas in the game.
On the other side, Texas Tech had senior Kierra Mallard back in the game, despite suffering a hyperextension in her left knee on Sunday's game against Iowa State, and went for 12 points and nine rebounds in 28 minutes of play.
Mallard was not alone on the scoring front as Chynna Brown went for 12 points as well and Casey Morris led the way for Tech scoring 15 points.
Despite having one more player in double-digits, the Lady Raiders were outrebounded 44-33 and Texas overpowered and outscored Tech 34-14 in the paint making the difference in the game.
The Lady Raiders are back in action on Saturday as they take on No.1 Baylor in Waco with first tip set for 7 p.m.
