Red Raiders Top Rams in Mid-week Game, 13-8

It took a bit of a comeback, but Texas Tech was able to overcome Angelo State and notch yet another mid-week victory.

Lubbock, Texas- The Angelo State Rams (23-10) could not overcome the Texas Tech offense on Tuesday as they fell to the Red Raiders 13-8.

Tech (17-13) found themselves in a hole after the top of the third inning, down 5-2.

The Red Raiders responded very well with an eight-run inning in the bottom of the third where six different players had base hits including a double and a triple for center fielder Barrett Barnes.

Junior right handed pitcher Jerad McCrummen got his first win of the season against Angelo State and McCrummen said that it was good that they got a win tonight going into an important Big 12 series against Texas on Thursday.

"It was good to come out and get a win during the midweek, they all count and we played a good opponent tonight, we didn't take them lightly" McCrummen said.  "We came out and had an approach and we played a good ballgame for the most part.  It feels good to get a win".

Head coach Dan Spencer said that the team did a better job of executing on the offensive side of the ball on Tuesday.

"I think the win was big, but I think there were a lot of good things in terms of how we played," Spencer said.  "We did a better job in the short game and created pressure.  We did a lot better job offensively".

When asked whether the Red Raiders think they have their backs against the wall in terms of wins and losses in Big 12 play, Spencer said they need to play like it's the last game they can play and to play with a sense of urgency.

"I do think we need to play like our backs are against the wall and we need to play like it's our last game, we need to get after it and win".

The Red Raiders have a crucial Big 12 home series against the University of Texas starting on Thursday. Catcher Bo Altobelli said that the upcoming series against Texas is very important and they need to come out and get a series win before it's too late.

"It's always big, playing Texas is fun and hopefully fans come out here and we put on a good show" Altobelli said.  Texas is a good team and we need to come out and get after them."

Tech's series against Texas starts off at 6:30 p.m.  Sophomore right-handed pitcher Trey Masek will get the Thursday start against the Longhorns.
