Big 12 to Big East: Tuberville Leaves Tech

Tommy Tuberville abruptly resigned from Texas Tech on Saturday morning.

A shocking and surprising end to the Tommy Tuberville era has come at Texas Tech, with the third-year head coach resigning on Saturday morning and accepting the head coaching position at Cincinnati.

Tech football spokesman Blayne Beal confirmed that Tech and Tuberville have parted ways during a phone conversation Saturday afternoon.

Tech has called a 4:30 p.m. press conference where Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt will address the media concerning the future of the football program.

In his time at Tech, Tuberville recorded a 20-17 overall record, while recording just a 9-17 record in Big 12 Conference play during that span.

Tuberville now heads to coach the Bearcats in the Big East Conference, following Butch Jones the former head coach taking the Tennessee job.

Steve Stripling was named the interim head coach following the announcement, and there has been no word on his status with the team.

The former Tech head coach now takes over a program that has won the Big East Championship the previous two seasons, and is heading to the Belk Bowl to face the Duke Blue Devils.

Tuberville will be entering his 18th season in coaching with a 130-77 record and a SEC Championship on his resume from his time at Auburn.
