California snagged its third commit of the week and second commit out of this past official visit weekend, as College of San Mateo defensive end Sione Sina pulled the trigger on Monday morning and committed to the Golden Bears, even without a defensive coordinator.
"Sione Sine is one of the top defensive linemen in the JC ranks in the country," said Scout.com/FoxSportsNEXT west coast recruiting analyst Brandon Huffman. "This is the type of recruit you want to bring in, with this recruiting class -- one who can help out on defense right away."
Sina went to high school in Sacramento, Calif., and chose to stay in the Bay Area over potentially going to BYU or Washington State.
Sina has three years to play two, and as a freshman, tallied 38 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and six sacks.
Sina says that going to Cal and getting a Berkeley degree are things that "no one thought I could do," and he's excited for the academic challenges that lay ahead, as he plans to graduate in December.
"I want to come here," he said. "I want to challenge myself and do something that nobody expected me to do."
