Weekly Recruiting Update

Scott Fitzgerald turns in his first weekly recruiting update. Who's visited, who's committed.

Recruiting Update –

New Commits for the week:

Dee Paul – ATH (CB) Munday, TX. 1A Defensive player of the year and also played QB. Very productive. Physically is tall, but lean. Great leaping ability should help with his pass coverage skills. 5 time state champ in track as well.

Carlos Thompson – IR Manvel, TX. Leading receiver in yardage and TDs for a team that featured two other Division I wide receiver recruits. Can't argue with the production and I like his

Confirmed visits:

Quincy Adeboyejo – WR Cedar Hill. This is the key recruit of the weekend. If he commits to the Red Raiders, it will help tremendously with the talent at the skill positions and help solidify the class.

Cameron Echols-Luper – WR Auburn, AL. Another A&M decommit and current TCU commit. The question is how many receiver spots will be open after this weekend. With Thompson now on board, there can't be too many left.

Scout.com has Daryl Chestnut visiting this weekend. I have not received a reply from Daryl, despite several messages.. Remember that raiderpower.com  broke the news that Chestnut had opened up his commitment.

OL:3 -Brown, Porter, Hays (I still think Savage commits next week.)

RB:1- Middleton

WR:3 - Cantrell, Thompson, Nelson

QB: 1- Webb (enrolled)

DL: 0 commits (JJ Lollar just enrolled and is on campus, so that helps.)

LB: 0

DB: 2 – Woodward, Paul, Chandler (if he qualifies)

Obviously, the front 7 is a concern, especially at LB. I have an idea that Tim Wallerstadt is about to make up for lost time these next couple of weeks. Tech will be fine at DT if they don't pull any more because of Lollar. DE is still a problem, but Tech won 8 games without a dominant DE this year. There aren't a lot to choose from right now, but this staff is already in on a few for 2014.Best bet at DE that we know of is either Daeshon Hall (Lancaster) or Tyus Bowser (Tyler), but both are yet to confirm a visit.

Linebacker is the same deal. Looks like Tech has offered another Manvel player. I like Sam Lawlis out of Round Rock a lot. Again, a story similar to John Saldi where was a QB, sustained an injury, learned LB and made all-state his first year at the position. Another name to watch is Keree Renchie out of SugarLand Elkins. He had offers from both Tech and A&M and has not committed as of yet. I have yet to get in touch with him.

I would say the class looks good right now based on quality. Don't see any real risks on the board, which is good. It tells me the staff isn't panicking. If these coaches are able to pull a 3 star or above on a few front seven defensive players, then it will enhance the class greatly and I think the fans will realize that this staff did the best they could with the time they had.
