Recruiting Update: January 26 Recruiting Senior Writer Scott Fitzgerald gives his weekly update from the recruiting world.

Recruiting Update: 1-26-12

The final two visit weekends are here and it will be an anxious couple of weeks for the Red Raider fans and coaching staff. There wasn't a lot of info out there this week and a lot of recruits are keeping quiet as well.

New Commits: (1) Jalen Barnes - DB Port Arthur Memorial. Good prospect with a pretty decent offer sheet including Oklahoma St, Mississippi St, and Iowa St. Kid wants to play and there are open spots in the secondary to be taken. Really solidifies the DB class, especially if Chandler qualifies.

Confirmed visits:

Tyler Middleton (Commit) RB/IR from Midland/Navarro

Dee Paul (Commit)  ATH (projected CB) Munday

Carlos Thompson (Commit) IR Manvel

Dionte Savage (Baylor Commit)  Arizona Western CC.

Devin Lauderdale (Former Commit) Houston Bellaire

Obviously there are probably more kids coming in and visiting than are confirmed, as there were last week. The big prospects here are obviously Savage and Lauderdale. IMO, they'll get a receiver out of the guys that are left and that makes Savage a priority. If he leaves Lubbock still committed to Baylor, I don't think Tech wins that battle. If he commits on his visit, as he did on his visit last week to Baylor, then it will be a battle to signing day between Tech and Baylor. Savage told me a week or so ago through text that he liked everything the Tech coaches were saying, but wanted to check out the city and campus. If he liked what he saw, he'd commit on his visit. The unforeseen hiccup in the recruitment process of Savage was Baylor losing their top OL commit and having an open spot.

Class Breakdown:

QB – 1 Webb (enrolled)

OL –(3) Porter, Brown, Hays.

RB – (1) Middleton (could also play IR)

WR – (2) Cantrell, Thompson,

DL – 0 (Lollar enrolled)

LB – 0

DB – 5  Woodward, Nelson, Paul, Barnes, Chandler

Looking ahead

There is still a lot left to be decided for this class. I know it seems like there are receivers around left and right, but looking at the breakdown there are only two commits right now that will for sure play wideout. A perfect world would see Lauderdale commit this weekend and then Quincy Adeboyejo commit next week to round out the class.

The other big news of the week is a group of players from Lithonia, GA is going to visit Lubbock next weekend. These players are Jeremy Tyler , a 3* safety, Josh Outlaw, a 3* OL (ranked 2 spots behind Maurice Porter), Jacarthy Mack a 3* DE/OLB, and DeMarquis Polite-Bray a 2* CB. I'm calling them the Georgia 4. 2 of these guys are at big need positions, and Mack is a former Louisville commit.

As for front seven players on defense, I don't know how it's going to play out. Tyus Bowser committed to OSU Thursday and it appear that Daeshon Hall is headed to Washington. There are a few left here and there, but I don't know how this changes. One thing to look at is that A&M has 6 LBs committed. Maybe 1-2 of them see the writing on the wall and go with Wallerstadt.

It's going to be interesting. We'll have an update on this weekend's visitors sometime on Sunday.
