Marvin Hill – DB 5'11'' 185 Pierce College. Here's a kid with an interesting story. He signed with Murray State originally, but then was forced to open his recruitment after needing an additional class requirement. Based on the track record of the last few years, programs have as good a chance with a kid from Pierce to contribute as any. Hill can play any position in the secondary. Hill chose Texas Tech over Fresno St., and Hawaii.
Aaron Bennett –OL 6'6'' 285 Riverside College. Bennett is another good athlete with a big frame that will be expected to contribute immediately. OL is a need position, and Bennett's success will depend on whether or not he is in the rotation of OL.
Demetruis Alston – DE 6'4'' 260 Hutchinson College. Alston might be an early crowd favorite because he spurned the Cincinnati Bearkats in favor of the Red Raiders. Alston was sought after many programs coming out of Georgia in 2011, but after junior college and an injury that caused him to miss a lot of the season. Size makes Alston versatile as he can fit in either the 3-4 or the 4-3, whichever Tech decides to run. Either way, Tech needs a pass rusher. And Alston will be the next candidate to get a shot. Alston will have 3 years of remaining eligibility.
Kahlee Woods – MLB 6'1'' 235Sherman, TX. The Red Raiders get a player from Kirby Hocutt's hometown here. If Woods is anywhere close to being as productive as the Red Raiders' current athletic director was at K-State, they'll have a good one on their hands. The film shows Woods as a LB who will run through defenders and plays with a reckless abandon that few still possess.
Losses: This week has seen Dionte Savage, OL from Western Arizona commit to OU and Maurice Porter, OL from Fort Bend commit to Baylor. Not good because of the depth, but the Red Raiders are in on several other offensive linemen.
The Class as it stands:
QB (1) – Davis Webb, Prosper, TX (enrolled)
RB (1) – Tyler Middleton, Midland, TX (Navarro College)
OL (3) – Baylen Brown, Helotes, TX; Cody Hays, Fort Worth,TX; Aaron Bennett, Riverside, CA.
DT (1) – JJ Lollar, College Station, TX (enrolled) *originally part of the 2012 signing class, but enrolling in January 2013 due to an issue with his vision that has been corrected. Maybe just to make myself feel better, I put him in here.
LB(1) - Kahlee Woods, Sherman, TX.
Nelson averaged over 21 yards per catch, could see him playing either WR or nickel CB.
Paul is going to start at corner. I think he stays there.
Woodward was very productive offensively in high school at QB, RB, and WR, but will start at safety.
Depending on how things break, I could see Tech adding as many as 5-6 or as few as 2 on signing day in addition to the current commits. OL and LB are the biggest need, so we'll see how the ol' fax machine treats the Red Raiders.
