Texas Tech Looks To Move To 4-0

Texas State coach Dennis Franchione is 1-8 all-time against the Red Raiders.

A perfect record will be broken Saturday when the No.25 Texas Tech Red Raiders host the Texas State Bobcats in Jones AT&T Stadium at 6 p.m.

The Red Raiders (3-0, overall,1-0 in the Big 12) are coming off their biggest win of the season so far in which they upset then-No.24 TCU 20-10 in their conference opener. Tech has a high-powered offense that does not huddle and averages 40.7 points per game.

The Red Raiders are led by true freshman quarterback Baker Mayfield who tops the team in rushing with 92 yards and passing with 996 yards. Mayfield has been the talk of the town, but it is perhaps the Red Raider defense who has played the biggest role in Tech's perfect start.

The Bobcats will look to slow down the Tech offense through a defense that has allowed 18 points in two games. Texas State Head Coach Dennis Franchione is known as a defensive guru whose offenses use a rushing attack to win time of possession. Franchione, however, has a 1-8 record against Texas Tech with his only win coming in College Station when he was the head coach at Texas A&M.

It is the third consecutive season in which the two teams have met. The Red Raiders lead the all-time series 2-0. Tech dominated the Bobcats in San Marcos 58-10 in 2012.
