Visitor Reactions

Last weekend was a huge recruiting opportunity for Texas Tech as the Red Raiders hosted a very large and talented group of prospects. Many fans worried the loss to Oklahoma State ruined Tech's chances with the recruits, but judging by the reactions from the prospects, such as Cameron Batson (pictured), it appears the coaching staff, university and community hit a home run.

Fans were rightfully upset about the outcome Saturday night against Oklahoma State, but recruits often see the game in a different light.

For example, Oklahoma City Millwood star Cameron Batson, a 2014 Texas Tech commit expected to play inside receiver for the Red Raiders, loved the play calling, especially how inside receivers Jace Amaro and Jakeem Grant were featured in the offense.

"Tech didn't come out on top, but I still had fun watching the game," Batson said. "Something I love about Texas Tech is they throw the ball around, they threw the ball 71 times. That was a good sight to see, especially being committed to Tech to play receiver."

Munday senior three-star defensive end and Texas Tech commit L.J. Collier said he was disappointed with loss but added "it happens."

Collier, who had made several prior visits to Tech, was looking forward to meeting with the staff, which he got to do before the game and loved the new grey uniforms on display.

"It was a pretty good visit, I'm still 100 percent Texas Tech," Collier said.

Rockwall invasion
Rockwall Heath junior cornerback David Richardson does not hold any offers yet, but he has good size at 5-foot-11 and has picked off five passes this season.

Richardson visited Baylor and Oklahoma State earlier this season but said he was blown away by Texas Tech on Saturday.

"I think the coolest part was trying on the jerseys, I hadn't ever really done that before," Richardson said. "I felt like one day I could be wearing a Texas Tech jersey playing on Saturday nights."

Richardson made the 350-mile trek with teammates Devonte Richardson (his brother, a 5-11 receiver) and Jordan Hoy (6-1, athlete).

Joining them from crosstown rival Rockwall High were friends Chris Warren, a 6-2, 220-pound junior running back who has rushed for 747 yards and 11 scores this season; Will Reed, a sophomore quarterback who has thrown for 1,833 yards and 17 touchdowns this year; Xavier Castille, a junior receiver who has caught 60 passes for 985 yards and 11 scores and rushed for three more; and Jay Galloway, a junior receiver who has hauled in 27 passes for 466 yards, five touchdowns.

David Richardson said Texas Tech assistant coach Trey Haverty originally went out to Rockwall and recruited them and told Richardson on Saturday he plans on visiting them again in the spring.

Overall, Richardson said the whole Rockwall clan had a blast and came away impressed with the record-setting crowd at Jones At&T Stadium.

"I thought it was great. I think that's the loudest stadium I've been to," Richardson said. "It was way louder then Oklahoma State and it was pretty louder then Baylor."
