Texas Tech Offers Standout Sophomore DB

Nacogdoches sophomore defensive back Brandon Jones reacts to receiving his second scholarship offer from a BCS school. Jones also dishes on his favorite schools and what he thinks about Texas Tech.

Nacogdoches sophomre defensive back Brandon Jones is already one of the most heavily recruited football players in East Texas.

Jones picked up his first offer in late October from Texas A&M, now he has his second as Texas Tech offered Thursday. Coach Trey Haverty met with Jones bright and early at the Nacogdoches field house to extend the offer.

Jones said he liked Haverty, that he's seems really cool, but he can tell the coach has a serious side when it comes to football. He added he has yet to meet Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury, but he likes the overall youth of the staff and feels they can relate to him better than perhas an older one could.

"They've been talking to me off and on since last year, but I'm very excited it happened," Jones said. "I feel very blessed and it's unbelievable that teams already want to offer me as a sophomore. I'm speechless really."

Jones begrudgingly admitted the offers and extra attention adds extra pressure, but he wouldn't have it any other way.

Along with the two offers, Jones said he has also heard from Houston, LSU, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, TCU and Tulsa.

There's a reason he's so coveted. The 6-foot, 185-pound defensive back recorded 67 tackles, three interceptions and a pair of punt return touchdowns this season.

There are a handful of schools Jones has grown up rooting for he's definitely interested in.

"Texas Tech is definitely one of them. Texas, Texas A&M, Ohio State and Oregon--I've been liking those schools all my life."
