Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C. defensive back Josh Keys committed to Texas Tech on Sunday over a host of other offers.
Keys said his experience while visiting for Texas Tech's 42-35 win over Iowa State on Oct. 12 was the main reason he chose the Red Raiders.
"When I went out there for the visit I really liked the people out there and the coaches. It's a little city all about Texas Tech and Texas Tech football, you know Lubbock, and I love it," Keys said. "I really like coach (Kliff) Kingsbury and the way he coaches his team. He's on the rise right now, so I'm hoping my commitment makes the team better."
It didn't hurt that the Texas Tech staff visited Keys and his family in Mississippi in full force a couple weeks ago.
"Coach (Trey) Haverty and coach (Kevin) Curtis talked to me the most, but to be honest with you it was the whole coaching staff," Keys said. "They came to my house, they came to church with me and we had a good time. They brought the whole coaching staff and it was a good experience."
Keys, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound three-star prospect with 4.4 second forty-yard dash speed, chose the Red Raiders over more than 20 offers from a host of top programs including in-state rivals Baylor, TCU and Texas A&M.
"It was hard narrowing it down and at the end my family and I came to the conclusion that we were down to Nebraska, Texas Tech and Southern Miss," Keys said.
Keys, who was an All-Region 23 and All-MACJC performer this past season, is the sixth defensive back commitment of the class. He will have three years to play two.
"I have finals right now, am about to graduate and will hopefully enroll in January," Keys said
