Texas Tech vs. TCU
When: 1 p.m. Sunday
Where: United Spirit Arena
TV: Fox Sports Southwest
Radio: 97.3 YES! FM
The matchup: Two teams who opened up conference play losing by more than 20 points will face off in the United Spirit Arena. One of them will come out with a victory and possibly some momentum heading into their third Big 12 game. The other will be left in a hole scratching for answers, struggling to dig their way out in possibly the best women's basketball conference in the country.
The Lady Raiders rely heavily on three-point shots and excellent guard play. This was not the case during their Big 12 opener against Oklahoma. Tech shot 5-for-31 from beyond the arc and finished shooting 23 percent from the field overall. Junior guard Amber Battle, who entered the game averaging a double-double, scrounged up 11 points and six rebounds. Those numbers are well below her average. Still with impressive statistics, Battle's numbers dropped to 17.8 points per game and nine rebounds per game.
The Horned Frogs weren't much better against Iowa State. The ladies from Fort Worth were placed on the back of sophomore guard Zahna Medley, who was TCU's only player to score double figures. The Cyclones more than doubled TCU in the rebounding category 56-25. Iowa State crashed the defensive boards notching 42 in that category.
This matchup comes at a good time for both teams. After embarrassing losses, the winner has a chance to gain confidence and build on this season. The loser may be out of the race already and trying to improve for next season.
Notable: In 41 meetings, TCU has one victory over Texas Tech. The Horned Frogs defeated the Lady Raiders on March 26, 2008 in Lubbock during the WNIT.
