Replenishing the Ranks: Jamarcus Howard

Texas Tech ended the 2013 season triumphantly with a 37-23 Holiday Bowl win over Arizona State. Now the Red Raiders must replace some important outgoing pieces. The following is one in a series of updates on Tech 2014 recruits in the month leading up to National Signing Day. IS Coffeyville CC cornerback Jamarcus Howard still solid? When will he arrive on campus?

Texas Tech commit Jamarcus Howard was pumped up by Texas Tech's Holiday Bowl win and is still solid on his decision.

Howard, a three-star cornerback recruit out of Coffeeville C.C. in Kansas, said he is certain on his commitment to Texas Tech and is excited to play on the D1 level.

"It's a whole different atmosphere, the fans, the school and everything," Howard said. "I'm excited to just get out there and play some football."

Howard took his official visit to Tech during the Oklahoma State game. Although the Cowboys defeated the Red Raiders 52-34 Howard said he still had a good visit.

"Yes I made a visit. I enjoyed it; I visited during the Oklahoma State game and got to spend some time with the players and coaches," Howard said.

The Holiday Bowl win over No. 14 Arizona State is what really pumped up Howard and other commits. Howard said the game got him excited to be apart of the program.

"It was a big win and they came and played hard and did what they needed to do," Howard said. "I got me real hyped to be apart of that next year."

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Howard tallied 53 tackles, three for loss, two interceptions (one for a TD), five pass breakups, forced two fumbles, recovered one (for a 35-yard TD) and blocked two kicks in nine games this season. He was also picked as a honorable mention all-state selection by Scout.com his senior season at Tuscaloosa Northridge (AL) High School in 2011.

Howard is set to graduate in May and plans on enrolling at Texas Tech this summer.
