Lady Raiders Fall at Kansas

Texas Tech fell to 04 in the Big 12 after a 67-46 loss to Kansas Saturday night in Lawrence.

The Texas Tech Lady Raiders dropped their fifth straight game Saturday night. This time 67-46 on the road against Kansas.

Amber Battle was a bright spot yet again with 15 points and five rebounds. She also had a steal. Early foul trouble allowed for a Kansas run as Battle sat out. With her back in, the Lady Raiders were able to climb within two, but the Jayhawks pulled away to end the half on a 10-1 run.

Tech had absolutely no answer for Kansas in the second half as the Jayhawks came out of the locker room on a 14-1 run. The Lady Raiders first three points came from free throws.

Kansas took complete control of the glass throughout the game. The Jayhawks outrebounded Tech 52-25 and took advantage with 17 second chance points.

Kansas had three players score in double figures led by junior forward Chelsea Gardner who had 16. None of the three racked up a double-double, but two other Jayhawks combined for 21 boards. Asia Boyd was the rebound leader with 11 and right behind her was Caylynn Manning-Allen with 10.

Minta Spears produced just five points, but contributed in other areas. The Bullard native finished with three steals, three rebounds and two assists. Freshman guard Marina Lizarazu scored seven points and shot fifty percent from the field.

The Lady Raiders won the turnover battle 18-8, but produced 13 points.

Tech falls to 0-4 in conference play, but has a golden opportunity coming up. The other winless team in the Big 12, Kansas State, will arrive Tuesday in Lubbock.
