Thorpe Commits to Texas Tech

Texas Tech landed ts fourth junior college defensive lineman commitment of the class and its second since Thursday in 6-foot-5, 275-pound Highland (KS) CC defensive end Brandon Thorpe.

Highland (KS) CC Brandon Thorpe committed to Texas Tech on Saturday during his official visit to Lubbock.

The 6-foot-5, 275-pound three-star commitment is a perfect fit in Red Raiders defensive coordinator Matt Wallerstedt's 3-4 base defense as a defensive end, who possesses the size to hold up against the run, but also the athletic ability to rush the passer.

Thorpe chose Texas Tech over offers from North Texas, South Florida, UCF and West Virginia. He has three years to play two, but expect him to play immediately.

Thorpe joins Highland teammate Marcus Smith, Coahoma (Miss.) CC's Keeland McElrath and San Mateo's Rika Levi, who committed on Thursday, in Texas Tech's 2014 class of defensive linemen.

Smith, who has recently been offered by Cincinnati and Louisville, was obviously excited Saturday night as he told he spoke with both Texas Tech defensive line coach John Scott, Jr. and Thorpe about the defensive end's commitment and added "Guns Up."
