Robertson Talks Texas Tech Commitment

Riverside CC offensive lineman Dominique Robertson flipped his commitment from Kansas State to Texas Tech on Monday after visiting Lubbock this past weekend. Robertson talked with about why he changed his mind.

Texas Tech flipped a commit Monday morning when offensive lineman Dominique Robertson decided the scarlet and black was a better option than purple and gray.

"I just think it was a better fit for me as a player and a person."

Robertson previously committed to Kansas State. The 6-foot-5, 315-pound three-star prospect played at Riverside City College in 2013 where a familiar name was the assistant head coach and special teams coordinator. Texas Tech special teams coordinator Darrin Chiaverini helped convince Robertson to take a trip to the campus, but was not the ultimate factor in the flip.

"No, not really," Robertson responded when asked if Chiaverini was a factor in the flip. "He just told me to take a visit. He was going to support me wherever I went, but he told me ‘come check it out and see if like it' and I liked it."

The future Red Raider said he hung out with some of the other recruits who were in town, but did not go into much detail. His favorite part of the trip was meeting with the coaching staff.

Robertson has yet to decide what he will major in, but is considering sports psychology.

Texas Tech uses an air raid offense which means Robertson will be pass blocking frequently. He has no problem with it.

"I love everything about the spread offense."

The former Riverside City Tiger is a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, but would love to join some fellow Red Raiders in protecting Peyton Manning.

"I'd feel amazing," Robertson said with excitement. "I'd be working my butt off."

Robertson looks forward to playing in the scarlet and black, but he hasn't taken his eyes off a certain prize.

"My number one goal, honestly, is obviously to get my degree and hopefully get a shot at the NFL one day."
