It was a close one but Texas Tech New Mexico State on Thursday night at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park. This marks the Red Raiders ninth straight home win this season.
Both Texas Tech and New Mexico State got off to a good start with a strong effort on the mound. Junior right handed pitcher Corey Taylor struck out his first batter but it didn't stop there.
Taylor recorded six strikeouts in five innings, tying Matt Withrow's performance earlier this season against Oral Roberts for most strikeoust in a sing game this season.
Senior Christopher Bradley opened for the Aggies and threw over 100 pitches in six innings, recording six strikeouts but allowed two runs.
Texas Tech coach Tim Tadlock said Taylor's strong performance was expected of him.
"It was outstanding. That's the Corey Taylor we all know and love," Tadlock said. "We really love when he has the ball in his hand no matter when it is."
Texas Tech only managed to get four hits tonight but the ones they got produced good things.
Christopher Bradley shut the Red Raider offense down for the first four innings but that was broken by Eric Gutierrez brought in Stephen Smith who walked and advanced due to Lyons.
Texas Tech then extended its lead with an RBI from Adam Kirsch who pushed his hit streak to 12 games.
The big hit of the night though was Ryan Long's three RBI double after the Aggies intentionally walked Adam Kirsch.
The Aggies came back to answer Texas Tech in the bottom of the eighth.
Senior Kyle Kilgore hit a two-run homerun making the game 5-2. The Red Raiders put in Cameron Smith in order to wrap things up and he did just that producing a double play to get the final two outs of the game.
Junior right handed pitcher Dominic Moreno will start for the Red Raiders tomorrow. He looks to have the run support that has lacked this season. First pitch is set for 6:30 pm.
