Newsome Set to Visit Texas Tech

Aledo wide receiver Ryan Newsome holds offers from the who's-who of college football programs around the country. He has already made trips to Texas and Oklahoma and this weekend he will visit Texas Tech. His friendship with recent Red Raiders commit and four-star QB, Jarrett Stidham is highly publicized, but will that make a difference in his final decision? Get the details inside.

Aledo wide receiver Ryan Newsome has a plan for his first visit to Lubbock.

"Yes, I do. I'll be down there this Friday."

The four-star prospect has received five new offers in the past month for a total of 22. He's taken visits to Texas and Oklahoma and has plans for more trips this spring that include Baylor (March 22), Oregon (April 12) and UCLA (June 9).

Newsome is a close friend of Texas Tech quarterback commit Jarrett Stidham and the two have stayed in contact since Stidham's decision.

"Yeah, he's been talking to me too. Pretty much every day since he committed, but I'm happy for him. I really am."

As stated in my previous story, Newsome and Stidham have been speaking to each other long before the quarterback's commitment. The speedy wide receiver admitted their relationship is playing a role in his decision.

"I'd be lying to you if I said it didn't. It has an impact and I can't say how big or how small, but it does have an impact," Newsome said. "Mainly, because you know that's one of my real good friends and secondly, I look at not only where I commit to a school and I commit for myself, but at the same time I want to see who commits only to football, and what better guy to do it than my boy Stidham. He's the number one (dual-threat) quarterback in the country, so it's got some impact on me."

Newsome, like Stidham, plays other sports than football. Newsome recently received an offer from LSU to run track.

Stidham is not the only close friend Newsome has going to Tech. When asked if there is anything holding him back from a commitment to the Red Raiders, he not only gave his main reason, but added a detail that could work in the scarlet and black's favor.

"I haven't really been up to Tech or anything like that, so I don't really have anything negative to say about it because you know that my girlfriend is going to Texas Tech next year."

Newsome has in the past and continues to say that he only gets to go through the recruiting process once and is having fun with it. It's not something he wants to put boundaries on with a deadline.

"I pray about this day and when the Lord gives it to me, then that's when I do it," Newsome said. "That could be at any time. That could be in the middle of the night, a month from now, a year from now, it could be on Saturday."
