Texas Tech Hosts Top Recruits

The Red Raiders continue to host some big-time recruits as four-star quarterback commit Jarrett Stidham helped show four-star receiver and buddy Ryan Newsome around campus Friday. Who else was there and what are the Red Raiders' chance of landing them?

It seems like a month ago Jarrett Stidham committed to Texas Tech, but it has been just a week.

Stidham's desire to help recruit prospects to Lubbock has been highly publicized and debated, but Friday he returned to the Hub to help recruit good friend Ryan Newsome, a speedy four-star receiver from Aledo.

Both were decked out in scarlet and black at Texas Tech's practice, but they weren't the only recruits out there.

The following is who RaiderPower.com was able to confirm visited Friday and an opinion on Tech's chances of landing each.

Ryan Newsome
Newsome holds offers from many of the top programs in the country and plans on visiting most of them at some point.

The fact he's close to Stidham plus he knows he would be featured in arguably the Red Raiders' most glamorous position (inside receiver) since the onset of the Mike Leach era both play heavily in the Red Raiders' favor.

Still, Newsome holds over 20 offers and counting, plus friendship only goes so far.

JoVanni Stewart
I honestly don't know much about Stewart (5-9, 180) and just recently met him briefly. I know one thing, he started for powerhouse Katy at corner as a sophomore--that's pretty impressive.

The 2016 prospect made the trip with one of his teammates, a guy who is one of Tech's top early targets for the 2016 class. Maybe they are a package deal, maybe not. Stewart is in the infancy of his recruitment and it is always good to get a head start on the competition.

Jarrett Stidham
I've already heard chatter from some other Big 12 publishers that Tech is just Stidham's first commit and I totally disagree. The guy is all about Tech, has been for sometime and is going about helping the coaches recruit.

He looked comfortable in Tech gear today and was quick to flash the "Guns Up" for anybody who asked.

Collin Wilder
Wilder (5-11, 185) started for Katy as a freshman on the state title team in 2012 and once again last season when they finished as runner-up.

Tech was the first to offer him and that is a major deal to some recruits. He's one of them.

He was all smiles Friday and tweeted out "They have something special going on!!" after the visit.

Tech would appear to be in the driver's seat, but other Big 12 schools will likely take a run at him before it is all said and done.
