Texas Tech Hammers Abilene Christian, 19-2

The Red Raiders plated seven runs in the first inning en route to a 19-2 rout of Abilene Christian on Tuesday night at Rip Griffin Park. The win was the first contest in an eight-game homestand which continues with a three-game tilt against Big 12 foe Kansas State beginning 6:30 p.m. Friday.

It was a complete blowout on Tuesday night at Rip Griffin Park as Texas Tech beat Abilene Christian 19-2.

The Red Raiders (25-11) got the bats swinging right away and scored seven runs in the first inning. This set the tone for the rest of the night, as Texas Tech scored at least one run in each of the first four innings. The main cog was Eric Gutierrez, who bashed his sixth career home run and drove in four runs. Overall, the Red Raiders produced a season-high 21 hits and 17 RBIs.

The Red Raiders also capitalized on errors made by the Wildcats (12-17) early on in the game. Abilene Christian committed three errors and all of them ended with advancements that led to an additional run.

As a result of the early lead Texas Tech put six pitchers on the mound and the win went to sophomore righty Dalton Brown (2-0). Starting pitcher Dylan Dusek allowed the most hits of the evening with four, and Ty Damron allowed two. The other four pitchers Matt Withrow, Dalton Brown, Matt Custred and Corey Taylor all pitched one inning and allowed no hits or runs.

"It's a big confidence booster anytime you put up that many runs for the hitters especially," Floyd said. "The pitching staff really made my job easy tonight, all of those guys threw really good tonight it was fun to catch them."

The blowout win was a confidence booster for the team as they play a conference series this weekend against Kansas State in Lubbock. Tyler Floyd talks about the mindset going in to this game and going forward.

"Like coach said it doesn't matter who we are playing," Floyd said. "I think before the game he said he didn't care if it was the Yankees out there, we just have to go out and play good baseball every time we go out there."
