Texas Tech's incoming freshman linebacker, Dakota Allen, is just ready to get started.
Speaking over the phone recently, Allen said he would get to campus May 31. His football activities begin June 1.
Allen was a standout at Humble Summer Creek, where he was lauded for his size, speed, and activity around opposing runners. He is prepared to read up and bulk up.
"I'm ready to get on their summer program," Allen said. "I know college workouts are way more intense than those in high school."
Allen added he is focused only on helping the team where he can.
"It all depends on how fast I learn the scheme," he said. "Usually, I can pick up a scheme really quick."
The three-star prospect, who chose Tech over offers from several Big 12 foes such as Kansas State, Oklahoma and TCU, spoke at length about the "hustle" and individual skill he's bringing to the defense.
"I think the way I think of things – pre-snap, you have to know the formation…I know where the ball's going before it gets there," he said. "I'll bring that mental toughness to the defense."
