Plano East linebacker Landis Durham recently received an offer from Texas Tech.
"It's pretty huge man," Durham said. "Texas Tech being a really traditional program and Big 12 powerhouse."
The three-star prospect, ranked as the No. 14 middle linebacker in the country by Scout.com, is 6-foot-3, 228 pounds and has been clocked at 4.53 seconds in the 40-yard dash. In addition to Tech, he holds offers from Arizona State, Baylor, Boise State, Boston College, Illinois, Nebraska, Nevada, SMU, TCU, Texas A&M and Washington.
Durham, who was named one of the top 50 juniors in the Dallas/Fort Worth area by the Dallas Morning News, mentioned Tech has a few key factors going the Red Raiders way.
"Being close to home, playing good ball and going to a good school is just a huge factor for me right now," Durham said.
The 2013 All-District linebacker was recently paid a visit from the Texas Tech coaches.
"They came up and visited and I called coach [Kliff] Kingsbury and they offered me over the phone. We had a good conversation and he liked what he saw in me and he wanted me to get on campus for sure."
Durham recently finished up track season and is gearing up for the 2014 football season. He plans on making a trip to Lubbock, but currently does not have one scheduled.
"I think they're waiting on us to give them the dates of when we're free, but I'm pretty much ready whenever. Whenever they're ready for me to come, I'm ready to go."
Plano East recently hired a new head coach in a similar move to one made by Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt. Landis is extremely excited about his new head coach, Plano East graduate Joey McCullough.
The main recruiter for Durham is safeties coach Trey Haverty.
"Pretty much same situation as our new head coach, but he went to Richardson Berkner," Durham said. "We talked and he told me how he grew up in the D/FW area, so he knows where I'm coming from and I know where he's coming from. We've got a lot in common. The whole coaching staff up there is pretty young, so it's pretty cool."
