This 6-foot-2, 170-pound safety has a long offer list, but recently announced a top 10 consisting of Arkansas, Baylor, Duke, Louisville, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State and Texas Tech. Haughton said the Red Raiders moved up that list after his visit where he spent time with the coaches and players.
"I got a lot of confidence talking to the coaches and players," Haughton said. "They are just a lot of fun and give off really good energy. They are on the higher end of the list."Haughton spent time with 2014 quarterback signee Patrick Mahomes while in Lubbock. Haughton said they just hung out, played dodgeball and basketball at the rec.
Haughton is ranked No. 26 at his position and Texas Tech is recruiting him hard. He has mainly been keeping in touch with coach Trey Haverty, who talks to him about the college athlete experience in general.
"They talk about how college is the best years of your life they believe their school could provide that for an athlete socially and academically," Haughton said.
Haughton is just weighing his options now. He has not made any more plans to make official visits or attend camps for the summer. Haughton says he wants to come up with a decision by the time his senior season season starts and may have one by late July.
"Mainly I want to build better relationships with the coaches," Haughton said. "My dad is a huge part of the process and I want to take into consideration what he thinks is best."
This last trip was Haughton's second unofficial visit to Texas Tech as he also attended a Junior Day in February.
