Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist has an experienced junior with the potential of playing at an automatic qualifying conference school.
Makari Henry is a 6-foot, 200-pound linebacker who played strong safety one year ago. Henry features speed and strength running a 4.7 in the 40-yard dash and currently maxing out at 210 on the bench press.
This will be Henry’s third season as a member of the varsity squad. He is excited about the switch to linebacker.
“I feel good about it, because I think that linebacker is faster and you have to be able to do things on the run and see things quicker at linebacker than you would at safety.”
At the moment Henry has zero offers, but schools are showing interest. Schools who are currently contacting Henry include: Arizona, Clemson, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, San Diego State, and Texas A&M. Texas Tech has sent him exactly one piece of mail. Arizona is currently the hardest recruiter for Henry’s services.
The Shreveport product attended various camps this year including Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, and Louisiana Tech. More camps seem to be in Henry’s future.
“I think I might go to a few more. The ones in July like Baylor. I think Baylor has one Friday. I might attend that one.”
Henry plans to continue taking honors courses this upcoming year. He currently holds a 3.3 grade point average.
This speedster is keeping his options open, but out of all the schools which have sent him mail, there are two that stick out to him.
“Arizona and Texas Tech. Arizona, it’s just different. I've seen pictures of the campus and I love it and I've seen the fan base at both schools. Texas Tech, they play big time schools too.”
Henry is currently working out twice a day to improve his strength and speed. He considers himself to be a vocal leader.
