Walker in High Demand

Ponchatoula (LA) defensive end Reggie Walker is garnering a lot of interest from schools around the nation. Texas Tech is one of those who are in contact with him as much as possible. RaiderPower.com caught up with him recently for an update on where he stands with the Red Raiders and in his overall recruitiment.

Ponchatoula (LA) defensive lineman Reggie Walker is still being recruited hard by Texas Tech. The Red Raiders are very much in his running as well.

“Texas Tech, Florida, Arkansas. Those are my top three schools,” Walker said Thursday.

Walker’s older brother, Robert Walker Jr., is a former Mississippi State player. Reggie has yet to receive an offer from the Bulldogs and is unsure how high they’d be on his list if they did offer him.

The Arkansas Razorbacks are recruiting Walker hard, but the Miami Hurricanes are making a strong push. The 6-foot-4, 245-pound defensive end has yet to receive an offer from Miami though.

In addition to the teams sniffing around, Walker holds offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Florida, Kansas, Kansas State, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette, Southern Mississippi, Texas Tech and Tulane.

Recruiting Walker on behalf of the Red Raiders is cornerbacks coach Kevin Curtis.

“Yes sir, at least three times a week,” Walker added.

The three star prospect has yet to visit the Texas Tech campus, but would like to take an official visit there.

“I would like to visit (Texas Tech) sooner or later.”

During the offseason, Walker plays baseball. He is a slugger that plays third base and pitches. Although he hits 91 on the radar gun, another pitch is his specialty.

“I can throw a big knuckleball. I can throw it pretty good. My hand is so big, I can cover the whole ball.”

In the past, Walker has played basketball. He will not continue in basketball this season. There is no timetable on Walker’s commitment.
