Jonathan Gilesquarterback, which he has done for Elkins since his sophomore year, and passed for 208 yards and two touchdowns. Giles said Wednesday he was excited about the win, but is really looking forward to growing as a player before arriving on campus in Lubbock.
According to Scout.com’s Ahmard Vital, who was in attendance for the season opener, Giles is a "bonafide playmaker".
“Every season you are trying to get better and that’s what we’re trying to do as a team,” Giles said. “I am giving my all every game and being a leader on and off the field is a big thing for me this season.”
Giles believes playing quarterback in high school will give him an advantage as a receiver at the next level.
“It gives me a big advantage, because you know where everyone is going and where everyone is supposed to be,” Giles said. “It won’t be that hard to transition to a receiver at Tech but probably make it easier.”
As for his commitment to Texas Tech Giles sounded very confident and mentioned he talks to coaches Mike Jinks, Eric Morris and Kevin Curtis close to every day.
“I always have my ears open to them because most of them played for Tech and they have been in my shoes so they know what’s best,” Giles said. “I love their enthusiasm.”
He also said he is pumped about Jarrett Stidham signing and getting to be apart of the same team as him.
“I was really excited when I saw that, my eyes got really big,” Giles said. “Playing for him is going to be great; I’m already fired up.”
