RaiderPower.com caught up with Kaplan (La.) defensive end Jalen Bates, who said he is ready for his official visit to the South Plains this weekend. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound three-star prospect is being recruited by the Red Raiders as an outside linebacker. Bates who holds 15 offers, also talks about his overall recruitment and his decision date.

The following is is a Twitter interview conducted with Bates through direct messages (DMs).

RP: First off, how is the season going so far?

Bates: Great. We're 0 -1 but we're building on it. It was a hard fought game against the biggest school in the state.

RP: How did you do individually?

Bates: I did good. I could've been better. I had 3 tfl's, a sack and 4 receptions

RP: I haven't talked to you in a while, how big are you now? What's your current height and weight?

Bates: 6'5" 240.

RP: Are you still planning on making an official visit this weekend to Texas Tech for the Arkansas game?

Bates: I'm coming just don't know what time yet.

RP: What are looking forward to the most about the trip?

Bates: Chalk talk.

RP: That's cool. With any coach in particular?

Bates: Anyone with the defensive staff is cool.

RP: The last time we talked Tech was recruiting you as an OLB at the Bandit position. Is that still the case and do you still like that?

Bates: Yea. I like the idea. It's a versatile position.

RP: Is there any question you have about Tech as a school or football program you're hoping to have answered this weekend?

Bates: I just want to see the opportunities to make plays the bandit has.

RP: I saw on Twitter you're still planning on committing in a couple weeks? What day are you planning to commit again?

Bates: 9/26.

RP: I saw you visited ASU recently. How did it go?

Bates: It went great. Was very satisfied

RP: Thanks for your time. I really appreciate it.
