Texas Tech recently offered McKinney North senior safety Bryce Balous. caught up with the 5-foot-11, 180-pound three-star prospect who has run a laser-certified 4.39-second 40-yard dash.

The following interview was conducted through direct messages on Twitter:

RP: First off congrats on the Tech offer. How'd it go down? How'd you find out? What was your reaction?

Balous: Coach [Trey] Haverty told me to call him the night before and he said he wants to offer me and he'd have to see what coach Kingsbury wants to do. So the next morning he calls me and says that they wanna offer me a scholarship to that school. I can't express how amazing the feeling felt, it was great!

RP: That's cool. How long has Tech been recruiting you?

Balous: When I lived in San Antonio they came up to the school (John Jay) to talk to me for a little then I moved here and they talked to me for a little. Then they stopped so I think my mid season highlight really impressed them.

RP: When was it they first came by school? And which coaches?

Balous: I forgot his name, but I think it was the RB coach. He was an African American and bald.

RP: Haha. Yeah, that's coach Jinks. He used to be Cibolo-Steele's HC.

Balous: Yeah, that's what he told me when I was at John Jay.

RP: You mentioned coach Haverty earlier. What is your relationship with him like?

Balous: Our relationship is pretty nice, we joke around with each other!

RP: I saw you really opened some eyes with your 40 time at the Nike camp at Jerry World. Have you noticed a difference in your recruitment since then? And who do you hold offers from? We have you with Tech, K-State, Iowa, Ark. St and Nevada.

Balous: Yes, after that I picked up 3 offers from Nevada, Kansas State, and Arkansas State, then Tech likes my speed as well. Those are all it

RP: Where are you at in your recruitment? Do you have a date set for when you plan to commit?

Balous: I'm at Texas Tech or Kansas State, and no I have no specific date.

RP: Do you have a visits set up with Tech and K-State yet?

Balous: No sir, but Tech said they want to get me on an official after the season.

RP: No plan for K-State?

Balous: No sir, but I want to visit when they play OSU.

RP: Do you have a deciding factor? What are you looking for most in a program?

Balous: Good education, something I can fall back on if going pro dosen't work out.

RP: Do you know what you want to major in?

Balous: Chemical engineering or business.

RP: Where does Tech see you playing in their system?

Balous: I believe at safety.
