Carter Still Looking for First Offer

Quarterback McLane Carter helped Gilmer to a 35-25 comeback win over West Orange-Stark in the Texas Class 4A Division II state championship earlier this month. In his lone season as starting quarterback Carter passed for almost 4,000 yards and 47 touchdowns with just two interceptions. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound lefty is still waiting on his first offer, but is hearing from several schools.

The following was an interview conducted over Twitter using direct messages:

RP: First off, how's it feel to be a state champion?
MC: It's a feeling I can't even describe. It's awesome.

RP: Did you do anything to celebrate after the game?

MC: No

RP: Is anybody talking to you?
MC: Yes, la tech, Tulsa, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, BYU

RP: Who at Texas Tech is talking with you? How long have they been in contact?
MC: Coach [Trey] Haverty. Haven't been in contact much and not long

RP: How have those conversations been?
MC: Not really a conversation just a congrats on winning state

RP: Okay. Do you have an idea of the schools you're most interested in right now?
MC: La tech and Texas Tech

RP: What do you like about each of those schools?
MC: Texas Tech because of how strong the program is and the coaches, and Louisiana Tech because it's closer to home

MC: I have not visited anyone and I do plan on it once I get an offer.

RP: McLane, thank you for answering my questions. I hope you have an amazing holiday break!
