Coleman Surprised by Offer from Kingsbury

West Mesquite tight end Donte Coleman discusses the offer from Texas Tech and his overall recruitment.

West Mesquite tight end Donte Coleman was having a nice chat with Trey Haverty, his primary recruiter at Texas Tech, but then all of a sudden the phone was handed to head coach Kliff Kingsbury and things got real in a hurry.

"I was at school Friday morning and I called coach Haverty and we talked then coach Kingsbury got on the phone and then he offered," Coleman said. "I was highly surprised! I couldn't really say too much when he offered, that's how excited I was!"

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound tight end said he and Haverty went on to talk about how he could "be a big part of their offense". Coleman, who said he likes Tech's offense, added Tech started recruiting him heavily a couple weeks ago and since then he has communicated with Haverty on a daily basis.

Coleman, who caught 18 passes for 234 yards and four touchdowns last season, is rated as a three-star prospect by Scout. He's picked up a lot of attention recently as California offered him Feb. 10, followed by Rice just a couple days later and Tech the next day. He also has offers from Boise State and Iowa.

He added "TCU showing love also," and plans on visiting the Frogs this weekend. When asked if he plans on visiting the Tech campus he said "of course" though he doesn't have a visit set up yet.

What is Coleman looking for overall from a program and school?

"The system, education and somewhere I can have fun at," Coleman said.
