When asked if he remembered the two-time Biletnikoff Award winner (2007-08) suiting up for Texas Tech, Brown responded, "Yes I do!"
"I was ecstatic when they offered, I just thought I have the chance to be the next Michael Crabtree,"
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound prospect certainly fits the mold of receivers Texas Tech has gone after recently; big targets. With just seven receivers over six feet tall on the spring roster, the coaching staff has made adding larger receivers a priority on the recruiting trail.
Five of the six receivers in Tech's 2015 signing class are listed six-feet or taller, three are at least 6-foot-2 and two--J.F. Thomas and Donta Thompson--are 6-5. Also, of the 24 confirmed receiver offers in the current recruiting cycle 20, including Brown, are at least six feet or taller.
As for Brown's recruitment, he said Red Raider assistant coach Zac Spavital contacted him on Twitter and then offered the scholarship over the phone. He added he also hears from Texas Tech outside receivers coach Darrin Chiaverini regularly.
"Both coaches have done a great job taking time to talk to me," Brown said. "I really look forward to getting down to Lubbock this weekend and meeting them in person."
In addition to meeting the coaching staff, Brown said he's anxious to check out the football facilities and what academic programs they offer, adding academics is very important to him and his family.
Brown caught 17 passes for 355 yards (20.9 avg.), four touchdowns and added 279 yards, three scores rushing on 33 carries for Sillwater High School, which of course resides in the same town as Oklahoma State, one of Tech's Big 12 rivals.
"I can't deny that I grew up an OSU fan. If I did, you could probably easily dig up a picture of me in an OSU T-shirt," Brown said. "But this is a business decision for my future. I need to choose where I fit best at, just like college programs need choose if I am they type of player/person they want in their program."
Brown added he has heard rumors the Cowboys are interested but has not been personally contacted by them yet.
Ultimately, Brown said one factor will make all the difference in his recruitment.
"I'm looking for a coaching to staff that wants and has the tools to help me be as successful as I possibly can on & off the field," Brown said.
