This visit shook up the sterotype for Lubbock in Onwuzurike’s mind. Before this weekend he thought Texas Tech was small and very isolated, but he was surprised on his visit that it was much more than that.
“Great visit,” Onwuzurike said. “I liked the size (of campus) and everything seemed new.”
While on campus, he got to watch the last hour of practice on Saturday. Onwuzurike said that he liked the feeling he got from that practice.
“They were all happy and having fun,” Onwuzurike said.
He added that his favorite part of the visit was seeing the football facilities. He said that he loved the huge weight room.
This weekend also included conversations with coach Haverty, coach Smith and of course head coach Kliff Kingsbury.
The coaching staff has been really keeping up with Onwuzurike. He said that him and coach Haverty are really close and talk twice a week.
Although he has no leaders right now, he said he is hearing a lot from Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU, and Michigan. He also mentioned tying to make a visit to Oklahoma State soon.
After this weekend Onwuzurike said that Texas Tech is “pretty high up.”
A lot of things factor in to picking the right school and for Onwuzurike said some of those are weather, size, defense, nutrition centers and the campus. He said he found some of those things on his visit this weekend.
