The 6-foot-3 and 210-pound athlete has been recruited as a middle linebacker by a few schools such as Tulsa, SMU, Washington, Mizzou, Arkansas and Michigan State but holds no offers to play on the gridiron.
He also splits his time on the diamond as a left-handed pitcher. When an offer came from a team that was just at the College World Series a year ago, he decided to take it.
Tucker said his offer came about a month ago to play baseball for the Red Raiders and he was “so excited.”
“I would be a left-handed pitcher at Tech, but I would like to also play football at Tech if I had the opportunity to,” Tucker said.
Tucker visited Texas Tech last summer for their football camp and said the coaches seemed interested in him then.
He said that he has not been in recent contact with the football coaching staff but is very familiar with coach Mike Jinks because he almost played for him in high school before Jinks moved to Texas Tech.
In all, Tucker said he has an “extreme passion” for both sports and would love to play both baseball and football for the Red Raiders.
Lastly he added that he would like to make a trip to Lubbock soon and visit with both programs.
