Atkinson Reacts to Texas Tech Offer

RaiderPower.com interviewed Mesquite Horn receiver Jared Atkinson about his recent offer from Texas Tech.

Mesquite Horn Wide Receiver Jared Atkinson received an unexpected surprise when he was pulled out of class last week. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound wide receiver prospect was extended a scholarship offer by Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

The coaching staff seems to be in a good spot with Atkinson, too.

"How the coaches are talking to me makes me already feel like family."

While Atkinson doesn't see Horn teammate and Texas Tech signee Conner Dyer at school very much, the big offensive lineman did tell him to call the coaching staff.

Atkinson said he would likely play outside receiver in the Texas Tech Air Raid if he joined.

The standout prospect could follow in the footsteps of other big Texas Tech targets on the outside such as Dylan Cantrell, Darrin Moore, and Marcus Kennard.

SMU and Illinois State have also tossed their hats in the ring for Atkinson, who is excited about his recruitment.

While the offer is good news for Atkinson, those following his recruitment will likely have to wait a bit for him to make a decision. He plans to wait until after his senior season to commit.

Atkinson's film is littered with draws out of the backfield and big-time contested catches downfield. He has great burst and impressive cutting ability for such a tall prospect.

According to MaxPreps, Atkinson had 442 all-purpose yards as a junior with 12.3 yards per carry and 21.6 yards per catch with three total touchdowns.
