Taylor cornerback Damarcus Fields finally got to see the Texas Tech campus, football facilities and Lubbock in person on Thursday and needless to say he was overjoyed.

“It was better than I expected it to be. We loved it,” Fields said.Fields, 6-foot, 173-pounds, committed to the Red Raiders at the beginning of summer after attending a satellite camp. After seeing the Texas Tech campus it confirmed his decision and made him more excited to get to Lubbock.
Coach Kevin Curtis, who played a big part of Fields' commitment, showed him and his family around campus. Fields said the campus shattered his expectations and when it comes to the facilities he is a fan of the indoor practice facility coming soon.
“It was bigger than I thought. I like the environment around it. It’s not loud it’s pretty quite,” Fields said.
“When I talk to people up there they really care about you. They care about you a lot. From the coaching stand point and everything. Coach Curtis talks to me like I’m his son or something. They talk to you from a different standpoint than football, they talk about life and just what’s going on, it’s not just football,” Fields said.
One of the highlights of the visit was going over film with defensive coordinator David Gibbs.
“That was great. That’s the man right there too. He has a lot of experience and all he had to say was good things so, I can’t wait to be up there with that coaching staff.”This coaching staff’s hard work has paid off in recruiting so far with the 2016 class. Fields mentioned he is keeping in touch with fellow commits on Twitter and is looking forward to meeting them on his official visit during the season.
“We’re a big class right now, both ways on defense and offense. We’re going to get to really bond together, play together, we’re going to give some veterans a run for their money when we get up there,” Fields said.
He added that the common goal among the 2016 class is to turn the program around and that they talk about it everyday.
What is Fields doing to contribute to that?
Right now he said he is training and preparing for his senior season, but before he gets to Lubbock his goal is to be bigger and faster.
