"I'm on top of the world right now. Oh my gosh, my Twitter's blowing up, I'm excited, my mom's excited, my grandpa's throwing a party... this is a dream come true."Bruffy was sold on Texas Tech during his visit to Lubbock on the July 13, but had to do a little bit of persuading before making his commitment.
"I came back from my visit on the 13th and I knew I fell in love with Lubbock and the organization. I've always been a big family guy. I'm eight hours away from home in Lubbock," Bruffy said. "So I had to do a little persuading, my mom didn't want me to leave the nest. She wanted me to stay pretty close. But I had to convince her, 'Mom, it'll be all right. I'll come back to visit you as much as I can.
"I'll fly you up there, I'll do whatever I can to see you as much as I can.' Once I promised her that, she was all on-board with Tech."
What was it about Texas Tech that stood out to him on the visit?
"I can't put a pinpoint on it. It's just, you go up to Lubbock and you're gonna fall in love with it. If you look at Lubbock from the outside in, it looks like some ghost town. But if you look at Lubbock from the inside out, you're gonna fall in love with it. Once I saw it from that perspective, it was just amazing. There's no place I'd rather be."
Bruffy made sure his family had no objections before making the tough phone calls to coaches from other schools and then the easy call to coach Kevin Curtis.
"I talked to my mom and my whole family, made sure they were all right with it. When they were all on board, I called all the coaches that had offered me from other schools, I told them my decision, wished them the best of luck," Bruffy said. "Then I called coach Curtis, let him know, called coach Kingsbury, figured out he was asleep, then I called coach Hays and he said, 'go ahead, announce it. Put it on Twitter. We're so excited to have you as a part of the family.'"
The new member of the 2016 commit class made sure to erase any doubt about his level of commitment.
"I've always been a man of my word, so when I say I'm gonna do something, I'm gonna do it. I'm planning on just taking my Tech official and that's it. I'm excited to be a Red Raider."Bruffy committed to Texas Tech over offers from Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette, New Mexico, and Rice. He also reported interest from Baylor, Oklahoma, and TCU.
